“Linked data” has become a hot buzzword in the library world, particularly with the founding of W3C’s Linked Library Data Incubator Group. The mission of the group is
to help increase global interoperability of library data on the Web, by bringing together people involved in Semantic Web activities—focusing on Linked Data—in the library community and beyond, building on existing initiatives, and identifying collaboration tracks for the future.
The charter cites “existing building blocks of librarianship,” such as metadata schemas, Web-oriented metadata models, and standards and protocols for interoperability.
